2. Our Desperate Need for Prayer

If our lives do not reflect a life of prayer then we’ll be void of God’s wisdom and power that we so desperately need if we are going to effectively engage Muslims for the sake of Christ.

It’s a simple fact, God hears the prayers of his children, especially when we are praying according to His Word. God’s Word is replete with showing us God’s burden for the lost. If we pray and ask God to open our eyes and hearts to the nations in our neighborhoods, He will.

Leonard Ravenhill, an evangelist who lived in the 18th century, prayed “God plant eternity on my eyelids.” He wanted God to help him see people in their spiritual condition. Prayer is the means by which God opens our eyes and heart to see and carry a burden for the lost.

Jesus died for the lost, and God in His infinite wisdom has chosen us to make the redeeming Gospel message known to be made known. It’s as we pray that we are burdened and equipped to effectively engage the lost for whom Christ as died.

God’s heart and plan for all mankind is made clear in the final act of redemption, which we have a picture of in Revelations 7:9, which says, “After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne”. It is God’s heart that all people know Him, and it’s as we pray for the lost that God moves our hearts and lives to become a part of His redemption story.

Andy and I began praying for the nations when we first met (it’s what God used to draw our hearts together) and it was through prayer that our passion for the lost began to grow and we ended up on the mission field.

Praying for the lost and opportunities to share with them will mean that soon you will be praying for your friends, the ones you deeply love. And as your heart burden for your Muslim friends begins to grow as you pray for them, you will find God will answer your prayers and open doors and hearts to hear the Truth.

It’s through a faithful prayer life that God’s heart for the lost becomes your heart. Share your heart burden with other likeminded believers and begin to pray together. I just can’t overemphasize what will happen to your heart when you pray.
